Frequently Asked Questions
What will happen when you first call Allambee?
The phone is usually answered by our Administration Assistant (Kerry) she will take your name and number and get the duty counsellor to phone you back. Duty is for one hour a day usually around 2 - 3 pm However, if this is not a convenient time just let us know and we can organise a phone call at a more convenient time, or you may like to come in a speak with the duty counsellor face to face.
What will happen at my first appointment:
During your first counselling appointment you will have the opportunity to discuss with your counsellor issues that re of concern to you, set your counselling goals and explore together options that suit you best.
What if I need to change my appointment time
If you need to change your appointment or if you make a decision that you do not want to attend, please inform the office on 95358263. A minimum of 24 hours would be appreciated as this will enable another person waiting for counselling to be offered your appointment time. Missed appointment that have not been cancelled or rescheduled may result in your name being removed from our counselling waitlist. If for some reason you decide that now is not the right time for you to be seeing a counsellor and cancel your appointment, you are welcome to recontact Allambee anytime in the future should the need arise.
How Much does a counselling session cost?
Allambee provides free professional counselling however, donations are gratefully appreciated.
How long will I have to wait for an appointment?
Unfortunately Allambee often has a waiting list for its counselling services. This will be discussed at the time of the duty assessment. If you are on the waitlist and you are worried about something or are feeling anxious about anything you are always welcome to phone for support in the meantime.
Can I bring in my partner or a support person with me?
You are welcome to bring in your partner or a support person of your choice to your counselling sessions. However, we are not funded to assist the perpetrators of abuse therefore, if your partner is the perpetrator of the sexual and/or family violence we would not be able to see them. However, we would refer them on to the appropriate services.
